Emma Gonzalez and David Hogg: Change is Here
All I can say for the many people who believe things will never change, is that they’ve obviously never looked into the eyes of David Hogg and Emma Gonzalez. Two seniors from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, who’ve spent the last 4 days not backing down. Holding the adults accountable. Calling out those responsible. Reminding us all that they’re the kids, and we’ve failed them as the grownups. With compassion, eloquence, and a little bit of rage, they’ve challenged the entire core of this country. They’ve stepped up, and I think they are going to bring the rest of America with them.
Have you ever been in such a special moment, one that caught you completely off guard, but still you were immediately aware of it's impact? That is exactly what Emma Gonzalez's "I call bs" speech was for me. A moment of significance. One that would live on way past just a moment. I was walking amongst our future history. I took time to take it all in. I'd put my camera down, and just be there. My life had finally caught up with the moment I was born for. I've been waiting for this my entire life. It was these kids I had been waiting for all along.
Since that day, my portraits of Emma Gonzalez and David Hogg have been liked over 7,000 times, and shared almost 3,000 times. I hope everyone who sees them gets inspired to find their own way to fight for what they believe in. This is my way.
